Earliest one ripped so far is Fabio on 23/24 June 1995. There were adverts earlier in that month about a new Friday night jungle show with Fabio and Grooverider, so it started during that month and Grooverider had a couple of shows before Fabio. I’ve only just seen this post, so apologies for the late reply. I’m not that convinced about the following answer because it’s difficult to pinpoint when a music genre, especially one as difficult to define as jungle, changes enough to require a new label to adequately describe it. I’d probably say it was around 1996, as the music had split into various sub-genres by then and lost enough of its resemblance to 93/94 jungle. I’d also say with hindsight that the scene had started to settle for the first time on certain boundaries for the music; advances in the music now took place within the narrow parameters of each sub-genre. Just as jungle replaced hardcore as the main label for the music as it developed, by 1996 drum & bass had become a better label to describe music that had progressed to a more ‘stripped-down’ sound. The term had been in use throughout the hardcore and jungle years to describe certain tunes or parts of tunes, so it’s easy to see why it was increasingly used instead of jungle as the music changed direction.
