No disrespect guys..I'm sure you know i'm a huge fan of the site..BUT..I'm also a member the diggerswithgratitude forum (A UK based hip hop Label and it's following) and i have to say there is a massive amount of general chat and community input over there (with about a tenth of the members)..Just an idea but they have several forum areas that RDB doesn't, for instance:

Introductions: Allowing new members to introduce themselves would get everyone chatting and new cats would maybe feel more comfortable jumpin into conversations.

Product Placement: So people can make members aware of their own releases and add links to purchase them/hear them.

Ebay/Discogs Reports: If you see that second copy of the X.T.C Ep and wanna let everybody on RDB know haha

I dunno whether there would be legal issues but maybe an area where people could add download links for wicked tapes or tapepacks..and chat about them.

This site is wicked but it just seems to me that most new member activity will be signing up to get a tune id'd followed by another tune id, because thats what i mainly do on here (Along with trying to help Id other peoples tracks).

Just be cool if there was a bit more of a community vibe on here. Maybe the Hip Hop community is just more Vocal than the Junglists haha

Peace.

Hey, it would definitely be good to get a bit more chat going on here. I think the main issue is that we used to use the forum just for site updates and perhaps introduced the more social stuff a bit late to spark everyone's interests.

We get quite a lot of people trying to advertise their releases already and, on the whole, we delete these threads if they're just there to spam the forum and not a request to add it to the database. I'm very keen to keep the spam stuff to a minimum as I don't really think it's of that much interest to anyone. If you personally have made something I don't see why you couldn't start a thread to get people's opinions on your tunes, but just a link to Juno or something is just blatant spam, really.

The eBay/Discogs thing is similar, I guess. I think we'll just find people linking us to stuff they're selling on other sites, which will just descend into spam too.  Both of those sites offer ways to monitor what's being added without needing people to link here so I'm not hugely keen on having that in place unless people really want it.

The introductions idea is a good one. Maybe we don't need a separate forum for it but I can (or feel free to do this yourself and I'll pin it) start a thread and put a little info in there to get things going. How does that sound?

In terms of getting people chatting more, there's a very easy way that you (or anyone else) can help out...start a few threads! I don't get time to really get involved in much more than taking care of the tech/content side of the site so I'll be little help here, I'm afraid.

Thanks Haste..Yeah i hadn't thought about the spam issue, i don't think over @ diggers with gratitude they have a massive problem with that for some reason..The community over there is very active most people on there seem to go on every night and have a chat. I think one of the main issues with that happening here is that most of us lot are mainly into older jungle so upcoming events and releases are generally of less importance to most of us. I'm sure there would be plenty of subjects though that would get people chatting..I think most people (with the exception of spammers and promotions people) seem to avoid the General Chart area.

I think your idea for having new threads as apposed to forums for introductions etc is good might be an idea to have them as stickies @ the top, however that is done.

Ever since i registered on this site years ago i have hoped it would get a little bit more sociable especially as it's mainly the same probably 50 or so heads that are always active. There is a lot of safe knowledgeable cats on here and a lot less know-it-all fools than i have seen elsewhere.

Peace

Yeah, the spam thing is a shame. It's mainly because this site is so well known in the D&B community so it's an obvious place to come if you're trying to promote your wares. You're right, though, there are lots of people who are into older stuff so all the new releases may well not be of interest to some.

I've added an introductions thread in the chat forum, hopefully people actually take part!

There's definitely a good ratio of good people on here. We're lucky that we don't tend to get many idiots posting up rubbish so it is a bit of shame that perhaps things aren't as lively as they could be

Wicked..If i can help to get things going i will! The only thing i'm thinking and i don't know whether it will be a lot of hassle is to maybe have the introductions area as a main forum. I'm sure if people introduce themselves and are welcomed by the crew, they will feel more @ home getting involved. Just a thought though, it may not have any impact @ all haha.

Yeah i can see the spam thing definitely being a major issue with some of my other ideas..but i'm sure if the members got more active, the community could post their owen releases etc in the general chat area and get some feedback.

Nice one Haste.
