The_Manipulator
Can anybody give some more information on this? I can't find any information about a tune called the reese project. The Reese project was one of his aliases. And is it that plucky bass in the middle of Terrorist? Is it the whole riff, or just a sound that was sampled?? Phokus
The typical hoover/reese bassline, as in The Terrorist, was actually sampled from Kevin Saunderson's Just Another Chance. Dillinja's Deep Deadly Subs is the most obvious in lifting the bass noise from the Saunderson track, as it also samples some of the melody of the original too. I read that reese project thing years ago and never had any reason to doubt it. Please feel free to edit this thread to reflect more accurate information. Ornette
So this is the one the No U Turn lot got their nasty noise from? A single tone, sampled from a Kevin 'Reece' Saunderson track, apparently this one.
Phokus
this is the original source of the reese b-line, yeah. the no u turn mob mangled the sound with a whole host of tricks and equipment though - remember reading they passed it through guitar distortion pedals, for instance. blah
I thought it was sampled from this version as it is more clean at the start http://www.rolldabeats.com/release/network/nwktr31 and dj raps get under on proper talent rippes off the whole sample of bass at the start and didn't even replay the note's either. oh and I think bionic on sacred has a bassline in the same notes but could be that same bassline then altered after. Phokus
Dillinja definitely lifted it from the original mix, since the synths are still audible. As for other samplings of it, quite possibly from another mix - I've only got the original mix, and I don't remember it being particularly clean anywhere in the track. stenny
If you get hold of the Zero-G Datafile 2 sample CD then check out 'menace bass' in the Roland Juno 106 samples section, as it's the same one (reese bass) that was used in Ray Keith's terrorist + loads of other tunes. Most people say it was sampled from that Kevin 'Reese' Sanderson track 'Just Another Chance' but I don't think it was as that menace bass sample is EXACTLY the same! Ornette
What's that Ian? Is that a sample usage, or alternate source you citing? Was gonna say about that David Morales remix that Blah mentioned as the bass is a lot cleaner & deeper than in the original I think I think the first tune to make use of this tone however, was: Inta Warriors - Dream Of Heavenhttp://www.rolldabea...ordings/djx0013
Ian_s
It's not an alternate source, and it's not a sample.....but it's just kinda replayed.
Ornette
Ahh I see. Do we think its related to the 'hoover' sound, as made on the alpha Juno 1?here's a link all about it...http://techno-dads.c...ise-the-hoover/ Apparently included as a preset "What The...?" on the alpha Juno 2 Also, a nice run down of Roland synths here, from 1973 to 2013http://www.rolandus....3-through-2013/
Chinny Reckon
The Reese on 'Terrorist' is surely sampled from the Morales mix, or at the very least sampled from something else that samples the Morales mix.
Mikhail Khaliulin
Hi guys! I’ve been collect tracks with terrorist-reese bass for a few years already. Here is the list: http://bit.ly/2ycFB2M.I think it will be a great for DoA guests! Let’s fill it together! If you ever find tracks with terrorist-reese (that aren’t in list) then write me! I’m gonna add them with noticing the person who found them. In case you think that there is something wrong in list - let's discuss it. Thanks! Possibly, but one of the three mixes on the original 12" starts with the bass chords open without the hi-hats, so could just have easily been pinched from there.
