Sub Dub - DJ Seduction

Old thread I know. But I've always been interested to find the source for this too. I do a bit of searching for it now and then. Today I came across this youtube video:

I noticed that the voice sounded really similar to the Sub Dub sample, but it's obviously not the actual source. Someone posted a comment on the vid saying it is actually Caroline Lavelle singing on the clip, so I listened to a few other vids of her and it does really sound like the original source could be from her.

However, looking at her discogs entry, she doesn't seem to have done much before 1995. But whether she made some other guest appearances before that aren't yet listed, I don't know.

Thoughts anyone?

Presumably that's a recent recording though. She may have done another recording in the early nineties or something.

Do you not think the voice sounds similar though? Of all the versions I've heard, her voice sounds the closest.

I'm not sure about Maddy Prior. I can't find a version by her to listen to, but listening to her other stuff, it just doesn't seem to be the right voice.

Not that I'm some voice expert of course, I could so easily be wrong!

Which recording did Dj Seduction sample for Sub Dub (I mean the "Bushes and Briars" vocal?)

I've got about 6 versions, and none of them is the one used.

Does anyone know?

I am very certain it is sampled from Swingle Singers. Obviously sped up and eq'd. Hope that helps.

P.S: Sub Dub is my favorite Seduction track!

the record was sampled on 45rpm so it sounded pitched up but not in a digital way like it had been pitched in a sampler

I did have a recording of that vocal section but i dont think it was labelled so i dont know who it was originally, think i found it either on here, backtotheoldskool or doa forum

No idea if this vocal was originally recorded for this tune or nicked from somewhere else, but this is obviously where Seduction took it from.

amazing find humana!

so this house record, maybe they took it off, I dunno, a tv documentry on folk music at the time? with some folk singer big in the game at the time just doing a 1-off acapella??

I'd read somewhere else that it was the Bumble tune, but could never find it for download or on youtube, so I just check youtube every now and then to see if someone's uploaded it. Thankfully they finally have!

Regarding the live acappella thing, I'm not sure. The vocals seem suspiciously well timed to be sampled from something that was performed live. When you hear people do this song live, the timing is usually completely arbitrary because there's no backing track and I imagine it wouldn't fit very well with something that has a locked BPM.

Having said that, if it was recorded specifically for this track, you'd think the vocalist would have got a credit on the record label considering it plays such a major part in the tune!
