The tracks within illustrate the diverse styles of quality drum and bass that Vampire has come to represent in the past five years. There is definitely something for everyone to get their teeth into on this EP! The opening track ‘Rhinosoar’ sees Phil Source combine with Outrage to deliver a dark brooding groove. Trademark vampire vibes accompany snappy beats and riding highs, while the bass tones morph in and out to keep things moving strong. On the title track ‘Old To The New’, Phil Source and Mark System join forces in the studio to write a track that successfully blends past and present drum and bass flavours. A deep number throughout, firm beats and bass drops hold the groove before the vibe shifts from oldskool piano stabs to a more melodic middle 8 style section, before returning to the tougher groove. ‘More To Life’ rocks out deep beats on this collaboration between Phil Source and Physics. Where solid kicks and rolling subs provide the basis for a dubby, techy beat embellished with subtle oldskool atmospherics. Of this EP ‘Vampire Slave’ by Phil Source and Strago looks set to do the most dance floor damage! A grizzly nocturnal progressive trip, with a typically sinister vampire edge. This tune is highly a contagious monster! Providing an antidote to all the venom, Phil Source and Paul T administer ‘Razzyrova’. A more liquid orientated track that oozes class through tight skippy beats and some seriously deep rolling bass, while a jazzy flute and a heavy undertone contrasts light with dark, or is it good versus evil?
