bukem specials...

on some of my old bukem tapes, i've noticed special versions of tunes, perhaps pre-release versions...

stuff like:

source direct's "exit 9" w/ lil' drums in the intro, where as there are none on the release version...

an extra 16 bars (at least) of drums in the intro of "the rhode tune" by flytronix, and it also lacks the vocal "my soul... get some soul" towards the end...

and slightly different vocals in voyager's "hypersleep"... in the release version they leave out her sayin' "what?" at the end of the vocal, and i also think there's some extra bit at the beginning of the vocal... on the vinyl it says "original mix '97 revamp", but i can't find any info for a released version prior to that one...

and i'm sure there's lots more...

i'll rip these as soon as i get the means to...

I think with Hypersleep your talking about the original version that is on his album, that has the full (including"what"!) sample from Aliens.

I maybe wrong but the 12" version released later on in '97 had a re-recorded version of the sample? As i remember it always sounded different.

You're right - there's quite a few tunes Bukem used to play back then that were different to the released version. Tunes like The Bell Tune etc. had slight differences to the released version when Bukem played them on dubplate. Others I can think of are PFM - For All Of Us, Tekniq - The Voyager, Unit 1 - Theme, Blu Mar Ten - Everglades, Oblivion - Sands Of Time, Ils & Solo - In The Area, DJ Trace - By Any Means Necessary, Droppin' Science #1 A & AA, Gwange - Vinyl Paradise, Freefall - Mind Adventures, The Specialist - I Don't Wanna B Free, Chalke - The Future, Roni Size & DJ Die - Music Box

Bukem's version of Sly Detector didn't have a beatless intro like the version from Earth 4. His version also had a different arrangement. Still pissed about the travesty that came out on Earth. It was nowehere as DJ friendly as the Progression Sessions version. I believe Kaos of Atlantiq (now of Dieselboy and Kaos) ended up with Bukem's Dubplate of this...

An old GLR forum head used to swear that Bukem's plate of Italian Job had raw amens looped longer at the end for his cutting. Apparently he determined that there weren't enough clean amens for the duration of chopping being done on the Progression Sessions mix. Most of the 12" mixdown had synths over the bulk of the amens.

Yes. So many. Another is DJ Gwange - Vinyl Paradise (instrumental version) that Bukem was playing in September 93 (for example at Dance Planet in Plymouth). It was without the slightly annoying vocals that appeared on the Legend red label vinyl release of it backed with New Creation.

Vinyl Paradise (instrumental version) was the tune that got me into dnb, along with Bukem's Atlantis.

It's definitely better without the vocal. Clip:

I noticed his version of Unit 1 - Unit 1 Theme had slightly different intro sounds to the released mix on one of his tapes I heard.

as mentioned, his version of Droppin Scxience #1 was a bit different too... had a diffferent breakdown in the middle to the released version (sounded a bit more 'sensible' if you catch my drift)
