This bit of what I've got is very confused, I had two C60 tapes which I taped and re-taped over, neither of which exist any more! Anyhow:

Grooverider - 20.06.1997

...

John B – Voltage Control

Grooverider - 27.06.1997

...

Intense - ...

This was from the second tape, ... the Intense track is probably The Genesis Project remix

Fabio - 04.07.1997

I've just found another Fabio tape. Not sure of the Date, but I think it's from 1997.

http://www.mediafire...87vh9kdjtomnn2j

Not much of an update, but I did have a tiny bit of Fabio on this first tape which was probably the second week,

hence 11.07.1997

What I do know is he definitely played:

John B – Voltage Control

possibly Roni Size/Reprazent - Jazz, Adam F – Jaxx

NB. I've since looked a little closer into this tune and although it is on the Visions CD its actually only in mixed format on the "Synthetic" disc which tallies with what Grooverider said about it at the time "not coming out"

http://www.classifiedlistening.com/tarzanstuff/John%20B%20-%20Voltage%20Control%20%5bunreleased%20clip%5d.mp3

(he doesn't mention in my clip so I guess he must have played again on the 27th)

The Intense tune on the 27th was more likely "1st Contact" thinking about it, as per here

Ive just come across this tape. It appears to be a Metalheadz session broadcast live on Kiss Fm sometime in 1997.

It features Chemistry and Storm (their last tune) then, Grooverider & Fabio and Cleavland Watkiss on the mic.

http://mediafire.com/?21oo4he5wpi8aso

Right, I'm fairly certain that this tape is dated correctly.

But I'm afraid there are a few question marks when it comes to the tracklisting.

http://www.mediafire...pz8hmuvpdnz0f6s

Grooverider: 22.08.97 (possibly 18.07.1997)

Ok, so as mentioned I'm of a good mind these were of the same show. It does come back to me once that I tuned in to a live broadcast, and after disappointely going off was later surprised to discover it was this Grooverider in the studio - bits of which I squeezed on to my first C60 tape

I see JJ's updated with a provisional date of 18th July - this is the same date I narrowed down to after going through my bits and looking at this show, with its memorable opening sequence (sorry Dombrowski for giving you a bad steer on the 22nd ;))

So unless I'm wrong about the first bit, here's some updates for the second bit

Grooverider 18.07.1997

??? dutch unknown [clip]

Hidden Agenda - The Sun

-adverts-

Dom & Optical - Quadrant 6 (Fierce Remix)

Nico feat. Makai - Omen

The Eels - Susan's House (Dillinja Remix) [unreleased]

-adverts-

Hidden Agenda - Channel

Plug - Me & Mr. Sutton (Boymerang Remix)

-END-

EDIT: It actually sounds like he's live for once as at one point you can hear him making jokes about one of the adverts just aired

voiceovers - on second unknown "Something out of Holland... take a listen to this" (not german as originally thought)

- on Dillinja unknown "that's something from the mighty Dillinja... forthcoming" & "and do remember you can catch part one of the two jungle shows this wednesday... hosted this week by Jumping Jack Frost... the circumference"

- on Channel "Right I'm gonna break out... 'til next week"

Great bit of history here...was this a live recording from one of the Hanover Grand nights?

Not sure. A poster on another forum identified this identified this as a live transmission from Tribal Gathering or Glastonbury, and he was definitely talking about the same broadcast as he correctly refers correctly refers to the first track Fabio plays. However, Tribal was on the 24/25th May and Glastonbury the 27-29th June, and it doesn't look like they were at either event, and it doesn't sound like a Metalheads event as they both play 'big' tunes and you can hear a shout out to Jumping Jack Frost to come to the stage which suggests it is from a festival of some sort, so who knows

It is possible that its still Tribal Gathering as they had a club night at the Complex in Islington (formerly... Paradise Club) called Final Frontier so maybe its a broadcast from there...

...which would give time for Grooverider to sneak off to the Kiss studio to do the second half matching my theory ;)

Could it be from the Phoenix Festival on 20th July 1997? There was a Metalheadz stage on that night at Phoenix and Grooverider was playing those tunes at the big events around July/August 1997. On the same day Kemistry & Storm also presented a special Metalheadz show on Kiss FM before playing at Phoenix.

Bryan Gee plays this on a Kool FM show and says "not sure on the title of this track, I remember when Karl Dillinja gave this to me he did say it was a rock group or something he was remixing" so it has got to be a Dillinja remix of Eels - Susan's House which didn't get released.

so it has got to be a Dillinja remix of Eels - Susan's House which didn't get released.

Funny, I was wondering about that myself while posting... I did have a little look at The Eels back catalogue to see if there were any commissioned remixes but it doesn't look like there were which made me a bit skeptical. However it does sound a little more 'put together' than some of his other stuff and Dillinja did do quite a bit of remix work for major artists around that time so maybe this was something he done speculatively in the hope it might get picked up.

Sounds good enough for me - all praise to Dombrowski for identifying the sample though, would never have figured it elsewise. I guess that covers the unknown for the 23rd May show too ;)

This was the final bit I had squeezed on to my first C60 tape. Has the 'network special' jingle.

Unusually for Frost this is a section of him in the mix for this show, and comments "after the commercial breaks... when we go back into the mix..."

voiceovers - "back on the other side with something from Westbam... remix by one of the drum & bass scene's rising young stars... Mampi Swift"

This is from 2nd July 1997 - there are adverts for Telepathy on 12th July 1997 and a Fosters competition for the British Grand Prix on 13th July 1997 etc. during other parts of the show. It should have been Bukem playing the 25th June and 2nd July shows based on the usual rotation, but I think he was on his North American tour at that point so Frost and Bukem probably swapped their shows. Bukem hosted the 23rd and 30th July shows instead.

Does anyone know what that DJ Worm track he's talking about is? Called "Innovations" but not seen it listed anywhere.

Something I'd like to know also. I've looked into it too and like you said doesn't seem to be anything... sounds a bit of an unlikely alias

What I have realised is I had the id for this all along, doh! Fabio gives it on his 21st Nov show, I'd skribbled it down whilst junking my tapes but then completely lost track of what it referred to. He calls it slightly different though, "Innovations by Innovations" if thats any help

Another possiblilty I've figured could be the Essential Festival

http://www.independe...ng-1252687.html

"The Essential Weekender 97, Finsbury Park, London. 2, 3 Aug, 1pm-10.30pm (Sat)/Midday-10pm (Sun), £25 per day

How does the idea of six massive, waterproof big-tops grab you? ... Saturday is Dance Day and the ultra-cool Massive Attack are headlining. ...The Metalheadz stage showcases the best in drum'n'bass grooves. With DJs such as Goldie, Grooverider, Fabio and Randall...

Sunday, Roots Day, showcases live acts from Coolio to Gil Scott-Heron. Another six stages will be featuring 10 hours of live music - you'll definitely need Monday morning off."

I'm sure I recall one of these friday shows starting with a 'live' broadcast, if so it couldn't have been the 25th which I did have once with that memorable opening sequence (which is of course the entire opening of the Colours LP). Maybe it was Fabio's show on the 8th that had this

Anyhow still looking forward to the Grooverider shows on the 15th & 22nd turning up where he opens with the End Of Something remix
