djkryptonn
I was watching the first episode of BBC's Walking With Dinosaurs the other day and the opening couple of sounds/notes immediately made me think of the breakdown in Sub Focus, Howtek & Brooke Brothers - Verano. The breakdown is at 2:35 here - The Walking With Dinosaurs episode is here - https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3f0sjm - and it's literally just the first few seconds. There are other noises layered over the top in the Sub Focus tune, but I'm convinced it's the same music. However, I'm not sure whether the music is unique to Walking With Dinosaurs so the source might be the original composition. It would be good to get your thoughts, and also see if anyone knows any more about this music. Also, regarding the same Sub Focus track, does anyone know where the spoken sample comes from? There's some parts I can't make out, but it goes like this: "Come, let us make this bargain. If we both return safe out of the perils that await us we will journey for a while together. But now, we must leave behind both [?? Dave and Wood ??] and must ride swiftly. My men are weary with [??........??] and I am weary also. Alas, my old age [?? ......... ??] Then, if you were to ride with me, come, we will journey under the shadow of evening."
Chinny Reckon
Benjamin Bartlett is the composer for Walking with Dinosaurs and by the looks of it the soundtrack was composed for the BBC with a full orchestra, ie- no sample CDs or anything. You would think the track in question would be the first one on the soundtrack album but the part you are referring to is not in there. Perhaps they sampled straight from the programme. I'm not entirely convinced though.
djkryptonn
Thanks for the info Chinny Reckon. It is strange the opening music isn't on the soundtrack, and I agree that the programme itself would be a strange place to sample that random snippet of music from. I wonder if we track down the source of the spoken word sample then we might find out more.
Chinny Reckon
They appear to be Lord of the Rings samples / quotes.
