what ever happened to The Invisible Man or Wax Doctor?  Can anyone help me with this one?

Wax Doc doesn't produce any more. He had that brief comeback in 2000/2001 with Fallen Angels 21, but has since dropped off the face of the earth again.

Yes!!!!  Thank you! I've been wondering that for ages!  I've got another question if you all don't mind.  What happened to PHD?  I've got all the ascendant grooves tunes and I want more!  Respect to the Tarzan kru and keep up the excellent work!

Always be cautious with what monkfish said as he wasn't the most accurate poster.   :laugh:

I read a few interviews with Spinback & Q Project back in the 1990s and they all indicated that Gwange and The Invisible Man were different people. There was a really good interview with them in Atmosphere magazine in the late 90s where they talked about Legend Records. I think they mentioned Gwange had a falling out with the person that funded the label and left the scene. However I've no longer got the magazine and the only thing I clearly remember is them commenting on Slipmatt playing Champion Sound (Alliance remix) in 1993 and the reaction it got.  

The Invisible Man also mentions he produced for Gwange in this Top 10 on hardcorewillneverdie:

This shouldn't be changed until we have a definite answer.

He did have a lot of anecdotal information the kind of which not many other people were able to offer.  It makes sense to me that the two are the same, however I guess your comments are right.

"Gwange is not me, it's a friend who actually still lives a few miles down the road from me in Oxford, in fact I bumped into him in Tescos for the first time in ages last week - he's now married with 2 kids. His real name is Simon Matthews

Legend records was actually financed by another friend who always preferred to stay anonymous - back then he was never involved in the music making, he just helped with the finances to press stuff up. I'm sure he'd be happy for you to use his alter-ego if you like: "DJ Hood" - I know he'll appreciate that. haha! The plot thickens...

With Legend Records it was often Simon and myself who would do a lot of the general running around to distro's and cutting houses as I already knew the industry from having several releases under my belt, and besides we were ones with transport.. however sometime during 94 both myself and Simon had to go AWOL for a while - him for personal reasons, and me 'cause I had quite literally burnt myself out.. no, not too many drugs.. - more from doing too many tunes and not sleeping or eating properly etc. mind you, working with Quiff and Smithy is quite possibly enough to give anyone a nervous breakdown... ;-) the speech from my tune "The End" seemed to have become a freaky prophecy.. very spooky.

It was at that point that I let Brillo (who used to work at Vinyl Distribution in Reading) take over my Timeless label and "DJ Hood" went on to finance a small studio setup for Quiff and Smithy so they could continue Legend Records without me, the last track I did with them was LEG-013 - by this point they had both spent a lot of time with me and had a pretty good idea of how to go about things, so after a short stop gap to re-assess the situation and learn the equipment they continued Legend for a few releases and finally wound it up at release number 16
