its odd that this should have same lyrics as .... EDITED: . . . Gat Decor - Passion . . .

But as far as I understand this is the original version. Nice classy house tune.

GO AND GET IT NOW!!!

DJ Solo - Darkage (Production House, 1993)

"...and every night you need me more and more...

...and every day, you make a fool of me..."

(DJ) Mayhem - Do You Want It? (Precious Material, 1994)

"...do you want it right now-oo-ow?..."

I wrote in this thread that the lyrics are originally from a Taylor Dayne song (probably the one you were trying to remember). I also have them slightly different ("teach me more and more" and "think of only me")

Are there really two different sample sources here, or does this house tune just sample the Taylor Dayne one? If there are two sources, are you sure Darkage samples the house tune?

Hmm... don't know the Taylor Dayne version, but I was always a fan of the Siedah Garrett version!

Anyway:

Siedah Garrett is the original from 1985. Taylor Dayne's version is from around 1988 and Degrees of Motion is from 1991.

I know for a fact the Degrees of Motion release has a full accapella (okay, maybe some finger snaps...). Siedah Garret's 12" (from the movie Fast Forward) has 3 different songs, though in true US fashion there may still be an accapella on a promo... And I can't find a 12" release for Taylor Dayne. So this leaves Degrees of Motion as the only accapella, and probably the source of all samples...

*EDIT* and then you read back and see that you've listed Degrees Of Motion as being from 1994 (UK release according to Discogs) while Darkage is from 1993 and I'm unable to find my own copy... (probably at my mate's place).

It's def the Degrees Of Motion one, since the original US release is from 1991 (I got it at early 92) and the FFRR release is from 1992, so it could easily have been sampled by Solo for Darkage and plus it's the only one with an acapella. Funny thing is that Richie Jones was involved in both late releases, the Taylor Dayne and Degrees Of Motion ones, as mixing engineer and producer.

I think the song you're thinking of is Gat Decor - Passion, the "vocal" remix that indeed uses Degrees of Motion...

Yes cheers Manipulator, that WAS the one I was referring to! I am a bit afronted by the mention of all these other versions, though! Had no idea...

Hey!  the lead singer of Brand New Heavies, uh? (circa 1997...)  Oh she dates back some years doesn't she!

(that new B.N.H. lead singer is FIT, a lie?)

And not even the first one... BNH started as an instrumental band, then took on N'dea Davenport as a singer with classic tunes like "Stay this way" and that other one (was that called "Never Stop"??). Some time later they did a few tunes with session singer Siedah Garrett.

She also sang "Don't Look Any Further" with Dennis Edwards... which I think was somewhere like 1984.
