Johnny Pearson - Sleepy Shores

Strings at 2:38 are used in Orbital's Chime, reversed, slowed down, converted to mono, and delay added as well. Orbital themselves have always said that they sampled the lead synth and FX used in Chime from one of their father's easy listening records, but they were never able to reveal where they sampled it from because of copyright issues. This means that the intro melodies in Chime could also have come from a different track on the Sleepy Shores album.

This is a (bad) recreation of the sampling done in Chime - https://clyp.it/1ydb...b7b7c9bf931135d

According to the Hartnolls, there are three samples used in Chime. I have already been through the other tracks on that Johnny Pearson album (they are all on YouTube, there is no need to go buying the album). There is nothing obvious there, but I did only skip through it. It's worth considering that the samples may not all be taken from that album, they could have taken them from an easy listening compilation album that has 'Sleepy Shores' on it.
