Few of the links referenced earlier in the thread are down -

The bbc tracklisting archives don't work anymore, though already known. The newest one http://www.bbc.co.uk...klistings.shtml seems to go to a BBC Sounds 404 page half the time, though other times will come up. Tracklistings don't display however, and only the year links for 2009 2004 & 2002 click through... due to weird url differences web archive doesn't seem to have much of it either, anything that can be found is here & here (filter by: shtml )

The 1Xtra message boards archive also seems be gone, and there's no trace of that 1ITJ thread on web archive, though other parts of the board can be found

Also, those genome.hexten.net links i've been posting are on a new url now! I'll update the ones already given

11/07/98 - Grooverider

...

Fierce & Optical - Side Effects

"Top Ten Rollers"

10. ...

9. ...

...

Stakka + Skynet - Voyager

??? [ clip ]

...

Studio 2 - Who Jah Bless

...

Just managed to piece this together, this was actually a show broadcast right after the passing of Stevie Hyper D, which according to my notes featured a series of answerphone recordings from many of the scene's big names, offering messages of condolance. Grooverider also played a segment of a Nicky Blackmarket & Stevie Hyper D recording, from a 'One In The Jungle' show I believe - likely 30.05.97 going by my details, but possibly 29.11.96 going by the list. Also Studio 2 "Who Jah Bless" was played in here, somewhere

voiceovers

- on Side Effects complains of having hayfever "but today just a few sniffles"

- on Voyager gives gig guide for Movement at Bar Rumba on 16th July, and Source at The Zodiac, Oxford on 17th July

Thanks Ornette, loads of good stuff there, i'll update the 1st page index later this week.

Cool... Do you think you might bump that DOA thread, see if anyone's turned up any other recordings.

Incidentally, does anyone know what's going on with the D&B arena forums?? Haven't been able to get on it for months... every time I try it keeps going straight to the log in screen wanting me to fill out a non existant captcha, yet going by the latest/active links at the bottom seems people are still posting on it, odd.

Can't find any details for live shows, on https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/ in that year

20/02/99 Grooverider

...

Codename John & DJ SS – Distance (UNRELEASED VERSION)

So, the World Of Drum & Bass album, right? I wonder if this is another one that has tracks different on the LP to the CD, like the Jazz & Bass Session II & Session III compilations.

Could be worth checking

NB. on intro to Creepers, mentions "could UFO still be at number 1 with the Contact LP, it was number 1 last week"

EDIT: voiceover

- on Codek "we also have a spotlight on Kemistry & Storm and they'll be talking about their new compilation LP... or mix cd"

Not sure where the date comes from precisely but does give gig guides for Saturday 27th on top of Transmission, though is unclear when those events are in relation... does mention the Contact LP being no.1 for the 3rd week so I suppose that does put it after 20/02/99

So... on to this series of live broadcasts, as alluded to earlier

Similar to the 'Radio 1 Tour' of 2000, it appears they went on a previous one in May of this year, again as a series of four dates... listening to the archives it's unclear if it was given a specific name or not; they refer to it as "the fabio & grooverider tour" in one bit, "radio 1 tour" in another... Think I'll go with 'Drum & Bass Tour' which is what they state in one instance.

Found some reference on the BBC genome site, which I'll go through and add - one of these is somewhat poignant to look at now.

Worth noting, all of these shows are given as the friday on that site, where as we are currently listing as saturday

Worth noting, all of these shows are given as the friday on that site, where as we are currently listing as saturday

I think at that point it was 0000-0200 Saturday morning

Always got talked about as Friday night, but the listing had it as Saturday morning. Similar to the essential mix when that was on at a similar time

BBC Radio 1 - F & G - 8B 1998 [Ripped by Adam C]

- Prototype Night at The End -

EDIT: nb. actually 1999

Also - on the look out for some live broadcast I heard from them in 1998? I remember it having Serious Sounds on it, and No Reality, also this tune with this big sort of boomy amen in it I'd love to hear again

I'm wondering now if these two were infact the same show....

I think I heard some of this 'Prototype' broadcast... If I'm not mistaken, the tune that Jumping Jack Frost opens with is precisely the same as the second one of Ed Rush & Optical. It had a sort of 'steel pan' intro to it, perhaps not a steel pan exactly but something similar... and I remember getting the impression from the MC at the time it was one of Ed Rush & Optical's own. It's not something I've heard since, certainly.

Thinking now, I reckon I lost interest from it being a live broadcast, and not hearing Fabio & Grooverider playing... and then tuning back in again later which is probably what that other bit is I remember. Going by those other live shows it's clear they were playing that 1998-dated "Serious Sounds" several times in 1999, and i'm strongly suspecting that 'boomy amen' tune I remember is John B "

It's unclear whether the other side of the tape, given as "BBC Radio 1 - F & G - 8A 1998 [Ripped by Adam C]" is a continuation or not, though the tracks seem to match the same time period. The bit given at the end of 8B however appears is a later recording, from a year or so later.

Fabio & Grooverider (Kemistry tribute)

I've only got an hour and six minutes of the show. On this recording, there seems to be a cut between the interview and the One In The Jungle set. I'm not sure if this was a glitch during the broadcast, or whether there's part of the show missing in between.

Hmm, I've just realised, that Prototype night was on a Saturday, so couldn't have been broadcast on the friday 16th night at all. Really getting mixed up on the dating transitions here, doh

Maybe it was the following week, the 23rd/24th? Which might explain the sets being split into chunks of three, as edited highlights of the event.

Also remembering a Grooverider show I heard earlier that year when I first heard Dillinja - Nasty Ways, where it was suggested it started out life as a Janet Jackson remix (!), also Flying Fish - Theme was played. Was thinking was may that year but looks like all of the dates have been accounted for that, maybe around easter?

Also a Fabio show later in the year where someone had sent him a dubplate for his birthday of Ricky Martin - La Vida Loca, which he then took back off again very unceremoniously... ha
