  • 10 years later...

Right, I'm turning up to this thread 11 years late but I've got this compilation on cassette. There are 17 tracks on cassette 2 and tracks 16 and 17 are both parts of the same DJ Randall set:

16:

P1. ??

P2. M-Beat – Style [Renk]

P3. DJ Ron – Mo Musik (African Lover Mix) [Rough Tone]

17:

Q1. DJ Ron – Mo Musik (African Lover Mix) [Rough Tone]

Q2. Deep Blue – The Helicopter Tune (Rufige Kru Rmx) [Moving Shadow]

Tape 1 only has 17 tracks as well. I think tracks 18 and 19 listed above on disk 1 actually belong as tracks 16 and 17 on disk 2 (given that they're both listed as Randall). I can sort clips for the unknowns, and will post them in the Tune ID forum later to see if we can complete this.

Regarding Disk 2 first track i.e. Darren Jay tune played with 'pretty like rose, sweet like syrup' lyric......

Uncle Dugs played this on his show a couple of weeks back.

He named it a 'Rock me Tonight' and said it was one the hardest tunes he has ever had to track down. He bigged up Darren Jay so guess he went to him direct.

He didn't say it was a dubplate (and he usually does), it sounds like a Jetstar or similar label tune.

Need the ID though!

Uncle Dugs say it's a dub on the show towards the end of the track - "so we roll the Rock Me Tonight dub all the way through". DJ Harmony's dubplate soundcloud page had clips of it from a couple of dubs (one of them previously owned by Mickey Finn), but both were labelled "unknown" so there probably wasn't any artist info written on the dubs.

Wow I'd even forgotten I'd done this thread - well done djkryptonn! Did see your update earlier but got lost in the mix

It's funny looking at these old threads, when we were still marking out the territory for jungle and working out what was what... almost seems unbelieveable so much of this was all still a mystery for so long.

I've gone and updated the first two posts with the info. Couple of comments:

F1. Renk Crew – Passing Me By [Decibel]

This was Timmi Magic and someone else, a woman if not mistaken, she put some comments up about it on the

a few years back but they mostly seem to have gone now. Nb. There is no actual Renk Crew credit, or any artist credit on the 12". There's also some info on it here (great article - do read if you have a spare 15 minutes or so):

Gone To A Rave #43: The Untold Story of Renk Records & Incredible

>> I1. Blackstar – Sound Clash Dub [Congo Natty]

Hmm.... I can't remember right. Is this just the second half of Champion DJ yeah, but listed on the 12" as a second tune?

>> M1. Roni Size & DJ Die – It’s A Jazz Thing (Electric Boogie Mix) [V]

This is just Roni Size I think, only The Calling is a collab?

>> H1. Tit 4 Tat – Feel [Pursuit]

I have been wondering about this attributed artist credit for a while, but just had a look at the discogs entry for this and seems its an update by Dextrous himself, so I suppose it must be correct

So the CD is the same as the cassette version of it. Have you got a cat no. for it, also any scans if you get a chance would be cool

Just wondering about the vinyl version also -

http://www.rolldabea...ert_storm/dslp1

From a quick glance, it looks like it mostly corresponds to disc 2 of the cd set, and then just a few of the tracks from the first disc at the end. Does anyone have this to see if it matches up? I notice Haste posts about it here... perhaps he can advise?

Right, seems someone else had a go at the tracklisting before http://rolldabeats.c...showtopic=47465. But here's my go.

Most of the video is random footage overlaid with tracks from the CD/LP, but there are some differences. Can't find much info on it on the internet, but there is a 'line up' on the cover that doesn't seem to match the running order. Have a look:

The Best Of Desert Storm: Live Jungle [VHS, DSVD1]

From events: Bagleys? (tracks 3)

'Back By Public Demand' - 2nd July 1994 (tracks 4 - 9)

INTRO: opening credits

Desert Storm feat. Baby Wayne & Michael Rose - Hit After Hit

This is just the tune studio mastered over some opening credits & random footage

1. DJ Ron(?) with MC Navigator

Leviticus - The Burial (Dubplate 'Amen' Mix) [unreleased]

Unique to the video, some random shots of DJ Ron i think

2. Mickey Finn with MC Moose & MC 5-0 :: corresponds to CD 1-14

Prizna - Fire

3. Mickey Finn with MC 5-0 MC Moose & MC Navigator :: corresponds to CD 1-05

Urban Shakedown feat. DBO General - Calling The People/Arsonist/"Micky Finn The DJ" (Mickey Finn VIP) [unreleased]

4. Jumping Jack Frost with MC 5-0 & MC Navigator :: corresponds to CD 1-12

Leviticus - The Burial (Dubplate 'Amen' Mix) [unreleased]

Some actual footage of the tune being played, with the mcs on the stage

5. Randall with MC Moose & Deman Rocker

Dead Dred - Dred Bass

Roni Size - Timestretch

Andy C - Cool Down

Unique to the video, again has some actual footage of the tune being played, in particular during the rewind, and Deman going wild to, Timestretch

6. Randall with Deman Rocker, MC Moose & MC Dett

Andy C - Cool Down

Tom & Jerry - Maximum Style Part 2

Bruck Wild - Silent Voice

Unique to the video, but with random footage, seems a continuation of the section above. Sounds like Silent Voice being brought in at the end but person on the other thread id'd as Hard Drive - Hold On?

7. Jumping Jack Frost with MC Dett & MC Moose :: corresponds to CD 2-09

Studio 2 - Who Jah Bless

Dopestyle - You Must Think First

8. Randall with MC Dett, MC 5-0 & Navigator :: corresponds to CD 2-03

Gappa G & Hyper Hypa - Information Centre (Ray Keith Remix)

>>
Cutty Ranks - Armed & Dangerous (Goldie Beef Base Mix)

Brainkillers - Screwface

9. DJ Hype with MC Moose, MC 5-0, Navigator & MC Dett

Red Light - Murder Tonight

Unique to the video, with some random shots of Hype

OUTRO: closing credits

??? another Desert Storm / Carl De Junglist, with chuckleberry vocals/chants? "sound killer"

Looks like JJ has been in above with some added details of the events - any ideas on any of the others?

For here, Moose mentions (at 27mins - Maximum Style Pt 2) an after party on "Adam Street, Kingsland High Street behind the Mc Donalds" and suggests that they are at Roller Express, also on the Hype clip Moose says "last one from the Hype" and that it's Randall next - if that's any help

Also I notice at I notice at 38:30 the video focuses in on a Desert Storm logo but has the text super imposed on the Vitruvian Man image... which was the Biology logo... Does that mean Desert Storm & Biology are connected??

5. Randall = Desert Storm 'Back By Public Demand' - 2nd July 1994

6. Randall = Desert Storm 'Back By Public Demand' - 2nd July 1994

7. Jumping Jack Frost = Desert Storm 'Back By Public Demand' - 2nd July 1994

8. Randall = Desert Storm 'Back By Public Demand' - 2nd July 1994

Sorry Ornette. I didn't subscribe to this thread and I'm not used to checking the releases forum so completely missed all the posts on here.

Regarding Renk Crew - yeah there's no artist info on the 12 so I went with the discogs listed artist. I used to own a different version of this track with the same vocals but it was nowhere near as good. I've got a feeling it was Driving Me Crazy by Timmi Magic but I can't find any audio of the version I had to confirm. Interesting Renk article you shared btw.

Regarding Sound Clash Dub - it's listed as 2 tracks on the 12 (although there's no gap) so I always list them as 2 tunes when I'm tracklisting - we've all got our own little ways... :D

Regarding It's A Jazz Thing - you're spot on regarding the artists and I've corrected it.

Regarding the cover and tapes - my cover is in an awful state (most of it's ripped or missing including the cat. no. I'm afraid) but it is listed on discogs:

Excellent turn up kryptonn. Looks like thats a cat no of DSMC1 on the cassette for this one.

I notice some of the track 'titles' are a bit different to the ones given on the CD. Do they then have the correct order to the other side then - i.e. the two Randall tracks listed at the end of tape 2?

Say, I've actually noticed there's another tune in the tracklisting that everyone so far's missed out on!! Took me a while to figure it, but its this:

Cutty Ranks - Armed & Dangerous (Goldie Beef Base Mix)

http://www.rolldabea...a/74321-23716-1

Randall teases it for a bit during "Information Centre" before dropping it out.

4 to 9 are from the 2nd July 1994 event as they match the tapes released from the event:

4. Jumping Jack Frost = Desert Storm 'Back By Public Demand' - 2nd July 1994

5. Randall = Desert Storm 'Back By Public Demand' - 2nd July 1994

6. Randall = Desert Storm 'Back By Public Demand' - 2nd July 1994

7. Jumping Jack Frost = Desert Storm 'Back By Public Demand' - 2nd July 1994

8. Randall = Desert Storm 'Back By Public Demand' - 2nd July 1994

9. Hype = Desert Storm 'Back By Public Demand' - 2nd July 1994 (tune played is Red Light - Murder Tonight)

Thanks for the id on the Red Light tune. Probably should have been able to figure that one out for myself actually, doh

Do you have any of these sets avalable?

Just updated the tracklistings with some of the details.

Intriguing flyer! That tallies with the note that's on the back of the lp and video, i see:

"Desert Storm is a jungle rave promotions company that is a subsidary to a major rave production company established 1988"

I guess that explains the Carl De Junglist connection then, with some of the other albums. Do you think the "Rock Me Tonight" dub might be one of his? It has a bit of a 'biology' feel to it, along the lines of this BIO785. I seem to remember someone on the ragga-jungle.com site once speculating the Dreadie release might be one of his, unfortunately that site's long gone now though

Noticed also there's an address for Desert Storm given at the end [45:30] of that video... for Evelyn Street, Deptford! That's just up the road from me!! Had no idea all this time they were based on my ends

I wonder if Carl De Junglist is still contactable?
