Assassimon
hello.so, my question should be pretty obvious from the topic title, but instead of letting it speak for itself I'd like to point out:I'm visiting a friend in London who's been living there for a few months now, and the confirmed month would be december, by the look of it somewhere between wednesday the 5th and sunday the 9th.this is ofcourse, open for any change, depending on different factors which are at the moment still irrelevant to my question, being the following: is there any jungle in London and if so, when and where?in the past, I've been to London whenever I could, to go cratedigging, but I never cared that much for any parties except when I was travelling with other people, having me visiting fwd, dmz and sin city on different travels.this time, however, I'd like to find some jungle party, mainly because the scene seems to be fading quiet in Belgium, thus leaving my expectations to the city of its roots./thanks very much upfront and if anyone is able to get me an update on what record stores closed permanently this time round, that would be appreciated aswell. haste
I'm a bit out of touch on these things so don't know anything specific, others will probably be able to help out more. In case you hadn't seen it Time Out is the place to go for general listings. They should have a big list of things going on for that time period, although might not have everything up there quite yet - http://www.timeout.com/london/clubs/ . Whether they'll have smaller jungle nights up there, I'm not sure, as those sort of nights tend to be pretty niche and rare to find. As far as I'm aware there aren't all that many nights catering for that sort of thing going on here any more, we used to be one of the few promoters who put on old skool/jungle nights in London. In terms of which stores are closed the answer is most of them! The latest to go was the Music & Video Exchange in Camden. For second hand stores there's still Reckless and another MVE on Berwick St which is where you'll find most record stores in town. Blackmarket (now BM Soho), Sounds of the Universe, Sister Ray and Phonica are all round there as well but might not be what you're after. Assassimon
right, thanks for the reply Haste, this helps me out pretty well. The latest to go was the Music & Video Exchange in Camden.it's a pity, I only discovered that one on my last visit, I was hoping I could get there again.. For second hand stores there's still Reckless and another MVE on Berwick St which is where you'll find most record stores in town. Blackmarket (now BM Soho), Sounds of the Universe, Sister Ray and Phonica are all round there as well but might not be what you're after.Reckless and MVE are my favourite and first shops to visit whenever I get to London, so it's good they're still alive, even tho I never get the feeling I might be paying my last visit there whenever I get there the other shops are pretty interesting still, found some grime sales in BM, hip hop and breakcore in SOTU and a fair few good dnb records at sister ray during my visits there, so I'm sure I won't waste time the next time round visiting those.Phonica rings a bell, but it's difficult to visualise it right now, is it a shop selling mostly electronic music in a basement between reckless and MVE?I'll confirm the date to get there later on, in the hope someone might have good suggestions for the time being there. thanks! haste
No worries, glad I could help! Phonica's not in a Basement, it's on Poland St just around the corner from BM and sells almost exclusively new electronic music. I reckon it's the nicest shop in the area, certainly looks really cool. This is the place... http://www.spoonfed.co.uk/system/images/147375/default/Phonica%20Shop.jpg Not sure I remember any shops in a basement between Sister Ray and MVE, I think maybe there was one years back but don't think that it survived all that long. Have you check the back to the old skool forum for parties? It's mainly hardcore stuff on there but you may find some jungle http://www.backtotheoldskool.co.uk/forum/ Having a quick look reminds me that there are things like this on - http://www.backtotheoldskool.co.uk/index.php/scene/events/details/293-19-years-of-jungle-mania - whether you really wanna go there or not is another matter
Assassimon
I see, been there once but out of all mentioned stores it's the one that did the least for me at that time, altho I vaguely remember them having a pretty interesting selection. I have not yet checked Back to the Oldskool, to be honest I did not know where to start except for some of the usual fora related to jungle, dnb, dubstep, but I'm afraid the topic here got me the best info so far. I've seen the jungle mania line-up, and if the date would be an option, which isn't, I'm not sure this would be what I'm after.I'd preferably get to find some cosyer events, even if it's not necessarily jungle/old school/hardcore. something like http://rolldabeats.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=53772 on the other hand would have me booking my ticket in a few minutes
haste
Yeah, as far as I'm aware the Jungle Manias are a bit moody and lean more towards the side of things where you have 5 MCs for every 1 DJ. Not my cup of tea either. Hehe, shame there isn't an RDB night planned for the foreseeable future. One day, maybe!
Logic
shame there isn't an RDB night planned for the foreseeable future. One day, maybe! Next time I'm back there -- god knows when that'll be -- this must happen. I'll do whatever it takes: flyering, taking money at the door, throwing promoters down staircases, etc., but I have to see an RDB night B-)
Logic
I meant to add "DJing a set" and "clockin' mad bitches" as other potentially helpful gestures that I'm willing to undertake to effect an RDB night

Assassimon
The shop I'm talking about had some pinkish interior or lighting, and there was a friendly Asian guy behind the counter. If maths don't fail me it was there about 4 to 5 years ago. mainly housey/techno/electronics kind of stuff. no second hand

Even if it's a bit more of a low key affair like the ones we used to have at The Castle. haste
Oh, one other thing worth keeping an eye on for jungle parties http://www.brixtonjamm.org/events.php They seem to have a lot of old skool stuff on down there at the mo
